Overcoming Chronic Pain and Other Functional Limitations Resistant to Conventional Therapies

Tatiana Reymarova

I seek to help people appreciate their body as their one true home. Being at home in our body allows us to savour the fullness of life, remaining present through both joy and sorrow. This is what healing looks like.

About me

Hi, I am Tatiana Reymarova.

I have been working as an independent practitioner of natural healing since 2011. Typically people who seek my services experience a wide spectrum of functional limitations for which the conventional system of health care could offer no effective treatment, and often did not even have a diagnostic label… other than MUS (medically unexplained symptom).

Among the MUSes I commonly encounter are pain in the muscles and joints, low muscle tone, numbness, backache, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and concentration difficulties. None of these symptoms come without an “emotional component,” built into our unique system of perceptions and beliefs. I have found that medically futile conditions can often be successfully addressed if we shift our focus away from “chasing symptoms” to the living body in its wholeness (which is what the ancient Greek word “soma” stands for). Soma is not a thing; it is a process that encompasses all facets of our experience — physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual.

My professional credentials:

  • ISMETA Registered Somatic Movement Therapist

  • RITMA Registered Therapist in Alternative and Complementary Medicine

  • Certified Anat Baniel Method (Neuromovement) Practitioner

  • Certified Emotional Anatomy Consultant

  • Certified LENS Neurofeedback Provider

  • Certified Practitioner of Tibetan Tsalung Healing Therapy, Levels I and II

I am registered as a naturotherapy provider with Medavie Blue Cross (No. A424297).

Why conventional therapies are largely ineffective for chronic pain

The impact of chronic pain is immense, practically every aspect of your life is affected. You may know how the pain has started, or it may have appeared out of the blue. You may know your medical diagnosis, or you may not. You have already tried to “fix what is wrong” with various therapies and remedies. But the pain keeps coming back...

I can help improve the well-being and functioning of people experiencing the following conditions:

Practically all these conditions have one thing in common: the proper communication within the body is interrupted. We can look at it through different lenses: as disrupted brain circuits, or as impaired muscle activation patterns, or as obstructions of “Qi“ —  the vital energy in classical Chinese philosophy, whose unimpeded flow throughout the body is necessary for health.

Communication between different parts of the organism can be disrupted for a variety of reasons, in a variety of ways; but the body’s responses are never meaningless! In most cases, they represent the workings of an all-round “security system” constructed by the brain. Once we begin to look at the human organism as an ingenious ensemble where all troubling symptoms make sense as manifestations of a certain life strategy, an opportunity opens for us to work with it, rather than against it!

How I work with brain injuries/concussions

A common experience among brain injury survivors is “loss of self” — manifested by detachment from one’s physical body, emotions, and the outside world, including persistent difficulty relating to other people, with devastating consequences for one’s daily functioning and overall quality of life.

Services

For each client  I develop a unique course of treatment based on their particular needs.

Therefore, a combination of services may be offered.

Somatic therapy

Somatic Therapy

Somatic therapy starts with a functional assessment — a thorough investigation of how your nervous system organizes your habitual movement and postural patterns, and how they create conditions in which your pain or functional limitations develop.

Then we dive into the process of exploring these patterns.  Through gentle, supportive touch and dialogic inquiry I assist you in establishing a deep, meaningful connection with your body, which enables you to realize how the signals of pain, tension, fatigue, or imbalance your body emits reflect your habitual thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Once such connection is established, the body usually spontaneously changes the muscle tone: the muscles that were chronically contracted become more relaxed, while those whose tone was low start to do more work.

During the therapy you will learn to listen to the inner voices of your body.  These voices are our trusty guides!  They tell us how we engage in all the aspects of our lives. Awakening to the wisdom of our body inspires us to explore it further, just the way true friendship grows — and our body is our closest friend!

As we come more in touch with our sensations, we discover our individual possibilities of freeing ourselves from old habits that constrict us.

Neurotherapy Neurofeedback LENS
Neurotherapy

Low Energy Neurofeedback System
(LENS)

LENS is an innovative form of neurotherapy that facilitates functional improvements in people of all ages who present with a wide variety of symptoms. LENS achieves its results by breaking up the rigid, self-protective way our brain has of responding to stress or trauma. Results can be seen quickly, often beginning within the first session, and are lasting. LENS may be utilized as the primary treatment approach, or as an adjunct to other therapies.

Hemoencephalography Neurofeedback (HEG)

The intent of HEG is to increase the dominance of the person’s prefrontal cortex (demonstrated, in particular, by improved ability to control impulses) and to strengthen the person’s capacity to flip easily from reflexive, emotion-driven state to a state of relaxed focus.

HEG helps to smoothen and limit “emergency responses” while maintaining alertness (“taking tension out of attention”), and also to build mental flexibility and resilience so that the person does not respond to the world with a single habitual pattern.

Children with developmental delays and learning difficulties
Children with Developmental Challenges

I address the neural substrate of developmental delays and learning difficulties. Regardless of diagnosis, I identify the factors that impact (facilitate or hinder) the ability of a child’s nervous system to self-organize towards more effective action. I then help develop this vital ability using an appropriate combination of therapeutic methods, such as Neuromovement, Reflex Integration, and LENS. I also pay special attention to those often overlooked acquired barriers to organic learning, which reflect the child‘s mental picture of the world and oneself.

This multifaceted approach, tailored to each child's uniqueness, expands their repertoire of movements, enhances awareness, and enables them to express themselves more fully.
