Body LENS

Body LENS is an approach to neurofeedback designed to systemically balance the entire body by EEG stimulation in the spinal, abdominal, fingertip, and toe areas. These zones are rich in nerve endings that can be used as a gateway to assist greater blood flow and chemical exchange necessary for healing.

Body LENS helps regulate both the afferent division of the nervous system, which transmits sensory impulses from peripheral organs to the brain and spinal cord, and its efferent division, which carries motor information from the central nervous system to the muscles and glands of the body to cause action.

When these channels are disrupted (e.g., as a consequence of injury or prolonged stress), we can experience sensory distortions and may not be able to respond adaptively to various stimuli, which entails muscle rigidity and pain, and often also leads to anxiety and depression.

EEG stimulation with minute energy emissions that echo or match the energy and information received from the body feeds back to the body a mirror image of maladaptive patterns that are present. The body “sees“ the image of itself and moves to correct these patterns. This dis-entrainment is very effective at improving communication throughout the body as well as between different brain regions.

Body LENS has been successfully applied to the following issues:

  • Muscle tension and spasms

  • Sprains and soreness

  • Pain resulting from arthritic joints

  • Complex regional pain syndrome

  • Irritable bowel syndrome

  • Muscle tears

  • Scar tissue pain

  • Chronic pain after bone fracture

  • Pain associated with sciatica and peripheral neuropathy

Body LENS can be used with the standard (brainwave) LENS neurotherapy or as a stand-alone modality. I also often use it in Somatic Therapy sessions to loosen the grip of dysfunctional neuromuscular patterns that cause the body to work against itself.
